Settlement
The process of fulfilling a financial obligation through the transfer of value, completing the transaction lifecycle with verified proof of execution.
Settlement is the final stage of a financial transaction—the point at which obligations are fulfilled through the transfer of funds, assets, or value. In traditional financial systems, settlement is often a discrete event confirmed by a payment message or clearing record, with limited connection to the underlying evidence that justified the transaction.
CENUP's approach to settlement is different. Through the SIE technology layer, settlement is the fourth stage in a five-step chain (Evidence, Authority, Capacity, Settlement, Execution). Before settlement occurs, the system verifies that evidence exists, authority has been granted, and capacity is confirmed. After settlement, SmartReceipt generates a verifiable receipt that embeds the entire evidence chain.
This evidence-backed settlement model is particularly important in trade finance, where multiple parties, documents, and jurisdictions are involved. By ensuring that every settlement rests on verified evidence, institutions reduce settlement risk, accelerate processing times, and create an auditable record that satisfies regulatory requirements.
